Ally Action Project Week 11: Jacob Blake

Jacob Blake was unarmed when shot in the back 7x by police in Kenosha, WI in front of his 3 children. The details are being investigated, but Jacob was held by his shirt when he entered his car as the police needlessly escalated the situation. They had his license plate information if he were to be later charged. This failure in policing grew in the subsequent days to show the hypocrisy of the Kenosha police.
At a protest demanding justice for Jacob Blake, a white teen traveling with a militia group, carrying an AR-15 shot 3 people. Despite him being recorded and the crowd confirmation that he was the shooter, he walked past police with no confrontation. The police were even asking about his situation as they passed. An unarmed black man is treated like a threat, but a white man with a rifle is allowed to walk away.
The police told the peaceful protesters that they must leave due to a curfew. A the same time a white militia group was given water from the police and told, "We appreciate you guys, we really do." Minutes later a white teen from the militia group who was comforted and praised by the police shot 3 innocent people, killing 2.
Jacob Blake laid handcuffed to a hospital bed with no arrest after being shot 7x by police, but the white teen who murdered 2 walked past the police with his rifle and drove home to IL. He surrendered the next day.
In the wake of the hypocrisy by the Kenosha police, the 2 major political campaigns visited. When Trump visited Kenosha, he declined to speak to Jacob Blake’s family, and focused on property damage. Biden visited Kenosha, spoke to Jacob Blake and his family, local congregations, rebuked violence, and spoke of unity. The president was only concerned with advancing his narrative about crime and law, while missing the opportunity to be presidential and start the healing process.
The action this week is to contact the Kenosha District Attorney to demand that the police officer, Rusten Sheskey, be charged. please help to stand up against the hypocrisy and systemic racism in Kenosha and the world.
